Heat treatment of ball tanks

Heat treatment of welded joints in high stress relieving mode in order to reduce the level of residual welding stresses can be carried out in different ways. In the construction of gas storages, ball tanks are often used.



At one of the largest gas chemical complexes in Russia, the construction of a 600 m3 ball tank park is nearing to its finish.

Our experts successfully carried out volumetric heat treatment of nine such tanks in the shortest time (three weeks).

During the work, unique equipment was used: high-speed burners with diesel fuel. Due to the high speed of circulation of the heated air inside the tank, the temperature is distributed evenly during the heating process and, on exposure, all thermocouples readings were into the temperature range of 10 degrees wide. Moreover, in accordance with the standart STO 00220368-019-2017, all thermocouples had to fit in the range of 40 degrees (from 580 to 620 degrees).
