Out-of-furnace thermal treatment of the coke chamber

25.09.2025
One of the main ways to improve the operational reliability of welded structures is through heat treatment. When manufacturing equipment in a factory setting, conventional kiln heat treatment is typically used. However, in the absence of a sufficient number of kiln furnaces or on construction sites, more complex types of heat treatment are employed for the assembly, repair, and reconstruction of large-scale equipment on-site. For example, off-kiln volumetric heat treatment of vessels and equipment using internal heating.
Our company's specialists have recently returned from a mission where they performed off-kiln heat treatment of a coke chamber.

The product was heated according to the high-tempering mode in order to reduce the level of residual welded stresses, increase the corrosion resistance, and, as a result, increase the operational reliability of the welded structure. The entire heat treatment process was carried out in strict accordance with the technical specifications: the heating temperature was 710-750°C, the heating and cooling rates were no more than 111°C/h, and the exposure time was 112 minutes. The entire body of the coke chamber was subjected to heat treatment, and the treatment was performed in a vertical (working) position. The heat treatment was performed using high-quality equipment equipped with the necessary safety systems.

At each site with installed equipment, the heat treatment process was continuously monitored. The quality control of heat treatment consisted of monitoring the temperature and time modes and heating parameters, which was carried out by control and recording devices with mandatory recording of heating diagrams, as well as compliance with the technology at each stage of the process. The heat treatment of welded joints was carried out by our company's employees, who have special training, certification, and extensive experience in performing off-furnace heat treatment.
