American National ASME Standard

<p>
    In response to the obvious needs and demands of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Standards Association launched Project B31 in March 1926, in which ASME was the only administrative sponsor. The wide scope of the asked question demanded that a sectional committee was created of almost 40 engineering societies, industrial organizations, government bureaus, institutes and trade associations representatives.

     The first publication in 1935 was made as the US Interim Collection of Standards for Pressure Pipelines. Audits from 1842 to 1955 were published as the American Compendium of Standards for Pressure Pipelines, ASA B31.1. Then it was decided to publish, as separate documents, various industrial sections, starting with ASA B31.8-1955 "Pipeline systems for the transportation and distribution of gas." The first Section of the Compendium of Pipeline Systems for Oil Refining received ASA code B31.3-1959. ASA B31.3 revisions were published in 1962 and 1966.
